Both the LOC CEO Danny Jordan and FIFA Secretary General, Jéróme Valcke expressed their confidence over Mpumalnga’s state of readiness to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Jordan said during his tour to the stadium and other 2010 Soccer World Cup related projects in the province, that he was satisfied with all the work done in the province so far.
“Yes, there are a few setbacks as there were some in other host countries such as in Germany, but I am certain that those challenges will be dealt with just in time. For what we have seen here, there is no doubt in my mind that this province is more than ready,” said Jordan.
Even though the FIFA’s trusted man, Valcke said the province would fail if it were to host the World Cup tomorrow but still gave it a green light and declared it will be ready by the time the games start in June.
“It is clear that everything is working according to plan and schedule, except for the pitch which I am confident we will get it right this time around and by June we will have one of the best pitches of the World Cup according to FIFA’s recommendations,” he said.
Meanwhile, the MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Dr Clifford Mkasi officially opened one of the World Cup roads situated in the R37 in Lydenburg and said that other World Cup related roads would soon be completed to accommodate the huge volume of transport expected in the province.
